Arkansas Better Chance Program
MAXIMIZING CHILDRENS’ SUCCESS
Since the early 1990s, Sunshine School & Development Center has offered the Arkansas Better Chance Program, commonly known as the ABC program. Our ABC classrooms serve children whose family’s gross income does not exceed the 200% of the Federal poverty level. For our 11 toddlers and 30 preschool age children, the ABC program provides the best possible preparation for elementary school.
Within the first 45 days of enrollment, each child receives a developmental, vision and hearing screening and are referred for further testing, if needed. In the classroom our teachers use the Adventures in Learning curriculum and cover topics like cultural diversity, social and emotional development, and language skills. Children participate in a daily schedule that includes indoor/outdoor activities, quiet/active activities, individual/group activities, fine/ gross motor skill-building activities, and children/teacher initiated activities. Our ABC classrooms are designed to maximize childrens’ success so they feel confident when they step into Kindergarten!
Family involvement is very important for child development and so our ABC classrooms make it a priority with planned activities throughout the year. Parents are frequently invited to participate in events such as Mother’s Day Tea, Cookies with Santa, Family Dinner and Thanksgiving feast, just to name a few.
