Knowing Your Child's Developmental Milestones

According to the CDC, "skills such as taking a first step, smiling for the first time, and waving “bye bye” are called developmental milestones. Children reach milestones in how they play, learn, speak, act, and move (crawling, walking, etc.)." Here are some resources you can use to act early as an advocate for your child. Mason's Resilience

Dear Friends, I’m still amazed at what happened at this year’s Sunshine Gala. Just a few weeks ago I shared part of our family’s story with everyone at Horton Farms and their response was remarkable! I want to share with you about the resilience of my son, Mason, the generosity of our community, and the miracles we have seen happen at Sunshine School & Development Center. The day Mason was born, I was in recovery afterward and the doctor came to me and said, “He’s a weak one, but it’s going to be okay.” She was right about one thing. It was going to be okay! Weak, however, is not a word I would use to describe Mason! The thing she didn’t know yet was that Mason would show more resilience,

2019 Arkansas Children’s Week

Hands-in learning: exploring sand, water, mud, and more! We love an opportunity to celebrate the children in our school! During this year’s Arkansas Children’s Week, April 8-12, we had a packed week of fun activities and dress up days to highlight our amazing Sunshine School students. This year’s theme focused on the benefits of “hands-in learning” and encouraged our teachers, therapists, and staff to participate in experiencial learning and play activities with our kids! Early in the week, classrooms got to see and climb through two Little Flock Police Department vehicles. Later, classrooms had time with a therapy dog while two others had a messy “Mud Day” full of laugher and squ

Record Breaking Sunshine Gala!

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO MADE IT POSSIBLE The 2019 Sunshine Gala was the most successful fundraising event we have ever had! Thanks to our generous supporters, over $440,000 was raised to support the programs and services we offer. Jarrod Reeves, VP of Brand Development at Outdoor Cap, and Erica Preston, COO of Chambers Bank, chaired the event committee to create a night of entertainment, delicious food and drinks, a record-breaking live auction, and moving stories about Sunshine School clients. Sunshine School was thrilled to have Joe Grady, Julie Barber, and Seth Malley as this year’s honorary chairs and were humbled by the support the three of them provided. We want to say a huge thank you to

Arkansas Better Chance Program

MAXIMIZING CHILDRENS’ SUCCESS Since the early 1990s, Sunshine School & Development Center has offered the Arkansas Better Chance Program, commonly known as the ABC program. Our ABC classrooms serve children whose family’s gross income does not exceed the 200% of the Federal poverty level. For our 11 toddlers and 30 preschool age children, the ABC program provides the best possible preparation for elementary school. Within the first 45 days of enrollment, each child receives a developmental, vision and hearing screening and are referred for further testing, if needed. In the classroom our teachers use the Adventures in Learning curriculum and cover topics like cultural diversity, social and e
