Reopening delay

Unfortunately, due to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases in our area, we have decided to delay our reopening. We will continue to monitor the situation before announcing a new opening date, but we are hoping that it will be just a short delay. There may be short notice of the new reopening day (maybe as little as one week), so please watch for communication on our social media and on Brightwheel. For EIDT students, please continue to communicate with your ECDS this next week about your plans to return when we reopen. Teletherapy will continue. For ABC families, even though you will not be returning this school year, due to this delay, please continue your AMI and your child’s teacher will be

Communication to Families: Reopening

Hello Sunshine School Families! As you know, guidelines and recommendations continue to change every day. We have been carefully considering and researching all information, including looking at county statistics of active cases. In addition, there has been an increase in testing capacity and now summer camps/programs are starting to open. Well over 1,000 childcare centers around the state have been open with no reported cases in either children or staff and DHS is recommending that childcare centers, with proper procedures, should begin to open up. With all of this in mind, we have our reopening plan in place. At any time, if information or recommendations change, we will reconsider these d

Dear Sunshine School Partners

Dear Sunshine School Partners, Like everyone right now, Sunshine School & Development Center is learning to survive in this new world. Unprecedented . . . challenging . . . what now?. . . new normal . . . these are just a few of the phrases we hear every day now. Through this time, though, Sunshine School is determined to fulfill our mission in new and creative ways. One of our core organizational values is innovation. We are definitely flexing that value in this new environment. While our preschool center is closed, we were lucky to receive a payroll protection loan, so we are able to keep our amazing staff employed and they are interacting with those we serve in new and different ways. Our

Parents As Teachers Program Vital

Digital Visits Focused on Family Well-Being Sunshine School Parent Educators from our Parents As Teachers (PAT) program are continuing their parent visits digitally. These visits focus on three areas of emphasis: parent child interaction, development centered parenting, and family well-being. We know this may be a scary time for the families and children we serve and hope to provide them with the support and comfort they are looking for as they adjust to the demands of this challenging time. Our team of three Parent Educators are helping families outside of visits by answering emails from families, responding to text messages, and by connecting via phone call to make sure that no family fee

Community Support Staff Staying in the Field

Assisting With New Daily Routines for Clients We are doing our best to serve our clients and to sustain our staff through this pandemic. During this unprecedented time, we are thankful for our amazing community of supporters who are deeply committed to our work and mission. Because of their partnership, many of our staff have been able to stay in the field to protect our adult clients who would otherwise be isolated in their homes. Our dedicated Community Support staff have done their best to help their clients find new daily routines. One of our clients, Colin, is enjoying a new daily "homeschool schedule.” He has a set structure and is working on completing household tasks like laundry wi

Launching Parent Consultation & Teletherapy Services

“Making the distance shorter and isolation more bearable.” Sunshine School is proud to be using telepractice to continue to provide services to the children and families we serve while we are closed. Parent consultation is a practice we are using to connect our therapists with a child's parent to provide techniques they can use with their child to continue working on therapy goals in their home environment. Teletherapy is a practice for qualifying children to continue to receive their individualized therapy via Zoom with participation from their parents. By training our therapists and launching teletherapy services, our team will be able to provide over 144 hours of therapy services each wee

Distance Learning & Alternative Methods of Instructions

Teachers & Families Collaborating to Help Students Sunshine School teachers and families have been working together on distance learning opportunities so that families are not alone in meeting the educational needs of their children. Our Arkansas Better Chance (ABC) staff has been hard at work continuing to support families by providing Alternative Method of Instruction (AMI) packets to our students. They are doing fun activities via Zoom and providing opportunities for parents to expand on the activities that have been provided in these packets. Our preschool teachers and Early Childhood Developmental Specialists have been working remotely with families to put together ac
