The growth & development of a child’s brain in the first 5 years of life is critical.

These early experiences and interactions form the foundation for future learning in children. Access to high quality childcare, interventions and connections is crucial for optimal development in a child.

Our future educators, scientists, thinkers, doctors, workers and professionals rely on the us providing a strong foundation of skills in these first 5 years of life.

One tool accessible to families is the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Milestone tracker app. This app encourages families to engage in checklists, tips, videos, and illustrations to learn more about their child’s growth. It also connects families with what to do if they have any concerns about their child’s development. This is a powerful tool in learning and guiding a child’s development.

Our children deserve our best and are our future.

There are lots of skills that develop in the first three years of a child’s life.

Some infants and toddlers meet developmental milestones more slowly than expected. This is called a developmental delay. Early intervention can help infants and toddlers with delays catch up in their development.

Temperament shapes a child’s behavior and development in significant ways, so understanding a child’s temperament is very important for nurturing his healthy development.

"We know that having a child with special needs can be overwhelming at first, but early intervention is key and makes such a difference.

Myka has progressed significantly since we arrived at Sunshine School. She is beginning to use words and signs to communicate, has medical equipment of her own to help aid her walking and standing, and is showing interest in self-feeding, just to name a few.

We pray that you will find the Sunshine School to be as amazing a resource to your family as it has been for ours!"

"We didn’t even know if Michael would ever say his name. Now our son can name just about everyone in our family and says more words than we ever could have imagined when we began this journey.

We truly feel that early intervention services to help Michael was the best decision we could have made for our son. The school is expanding on helping Michael in so many areas of his life that we can’t wait to see how much progress he is going to continue to make at only 3 years old!

We are just thankful to be part of the Sunshine School."

- Alison, Mom of Michael

Developmental Milestones

According to the CDC, "skills such as taking a first step, smiling for the first time, and waving “bye bye” are called developmental milestones. Children reach milestones in how they play, learn, speak, act, and move (crawling, walking, etc.)."
